Email Checklist Before Hitting Send

Email marketing is still one of the most reliable and valuable forms of digital outreach. Did you know 99% of email users check their email every day, some as much as 20 times a day! If you’re still not convinced that email marketing is as relevant as ever in 2021, here’s a new stat:

Shoppers spend 138% more when marketed through email, as compared to those who do not receive email offers.

So, before you hit send on your next mass e-blast, use this checklist as a guide.

  • What Does Your 'from' Name Look Like?

First and foremost, what email address are you using to ‘send’ this e-blast from? The email should come from your business domain email address, you can even set up an alias email address for newsletters@___.com for an added level of professionalism.

  • What’s the Goal?

Wanting more sales, leads, web traffic, etc? Think about this before you design and write your email blast. Make sure your copy, graphics and CTA aligns with your goals. Also, a no-brainer, but make sure the call-to-action button is easy to find and click, the less scroll to click, the better! :)

  • Are You Using Alt Text?

Sometimes, the images in your email blast will be blocked by servers. Alt text simply means alternative text displayed with an image. Think of it as the backup text that provides some context about what your image is, for those that have images blocked or turned off by default. Don’t forget to add this before sending!

  • Is Your Subject Line Good?

Don’t let your email get buried in the inbox with a boring subject line. 33% of email recipients open emails because of catchy subject lines. Studies have also shown subject lines with emojis perform significantly better and subject lines that stir curiosity or are personalized are found to have higher open rates.

  • Do Your Links go to the Correct Location?

This is a common mistake—double check every link prior to sending.

  • Did you add Social Icons?

Always encourage your subscribers to follow you on social media, too! Add your links to the bottom of your newsletter to make it easier to find you.

  • Grammar And Punctuation

Last thing, read and reread your email blast to check for any misspellings or grammatical errors prior to sending.

Hope that helped! Good luck with your next email campaign, and as always, send a message below if you have questions.
