Streaming Your First Facebook Live

Facebook LIVE is a new, native function that allows users to stream content using just their smartphone. For business owners and marketers, this a great way to leverage your social media reach. Once live, your followers will be notified. Make sure to post a heads up announcement so that viewers are aware to tune in.

Facebook live is great to stream events, company announcements and seminars. While you're live, you can also interact with fans by responding to questions coming in at realtime or by just giving them a shoutout! You're live stream can last up to 90 minutes and then the video will remain on your timeline.

Ready? Here's the step-by-step instructions.

Step 1: Open the Facebook App. Click the far right tab that has three lines. Then choose your brands page. This should prompt you to your Fan page but double check. Next, open up the publish tab by clicking the pen icon, as if you're going to write a new post.

Step 2: Tap the "Live" icon.

Step 3: Give Facebook access to your camera and microphone when prompted.

Step 4: Write a compelling description.
To get people to tune in, write an attention-grabbing headline and help them understand what your broadcast is about.

Step 5: Set up your camera view.
Before you click "Go Live," be sure your camera's pointing in the direction you'd like it to. Would you like to change the view to a selfie? Simply click the rotating arrows icon in the upper right corner.

Step 6: Click the blue "Go Live" button to start broadcasting.
Once you click it, Facebook will give you a countdown and voila, you're live! Once you start streaming, your live video will appear in your News Feed -- and others' News Feeds -- just like any other post would. The longer your video, the higher the chance someone will tune in.

Step 7: Interact with viewers and commenters.
To keep your viewers engaged, encourage them to interact with your live video (which will help your ranking in others' News Feeds). Let them know you see them and say hi!

As you're broadcasting, you'll see the time elapsed on the top left along with the number of viewers, and comments will show up live on the bottom of your feed. Your earliest comments may be at the bottom as these will show in chronological order.

Step 8: Click "Finish" to end the broadcast.
Once you do this, the video will stay on your Timeline or Page like any other video post.

Step 9: Save the video to your camera roll.
Be sure to push the option to save the video to your camera roll so you have a copy of the original.

Step 10: You're done!
All done! Remember, you can always go back to the post on your Timeline or Page and edit the description, or delete the video, just like you would any other post.
